Orlando opened the 2008-09 campaign with consecutive losses, then won the first four games of a five-game homestand. In Saturday's 106-81 victory over the winless Washington Wizards, Dwight Howard scored 31 points on 11-of-13 shooting and pulled down 16 rebounds to lead the way. Howard also finished with three blocked shots.
Mickael Pietrus had 18 points, Keith Bogans 13 and Hedo Turkoglu scored 11 points for Orlando. After Monday's game versus the Blazers, the Magic will hit the road for three games at Oklahoma City, Dallas and Charlotte.
Portland will begin a five-game road trip tonight against Orlando, Miami, New Orleans, Minnesota and Golden State. After losing its first two games of this month, Portland has bounced back with consecutive victories, including Saturday's 97-93 triumph over the Timberwolves at the Rose Garden.
Brandon Roy scored 24 points, including the go-ahead jumper with 31.9 seconds left, and handed out nine assists. LaMarcus Aldridge had 24 points and 13 rebounds for Portland, which improved to 3-3 on the season.
Travis Outlaw and Rudy Fernandez each scored 11 points for the Blazers.
Orlando won both meetings with Portland a year ago and has won four straight and six of the last seven matchups in this series.
Portland has lost three straight after winning its last six at Orlando.
